Friends of the Festival, Aug 21st, 2013
Four weeks have passed since the close of the 2013 WoodyFest. Most of the outstanding invoices have now been received and revenue from merchandise sales and parking fees has been tallied. Much to our dismay - and although we strive to work within a budget - we find ourselves substantially in the red. We are frantically trying to come up with ways to remove that shortfall while positioning the organization to be able to plan for the 2014 festival. The number of Friends of the Festival donations was lower this year while costs for artists’ travel were much higher. (Any of you who have booked airfare the last year can understand.) The revenue collected from the sale of ads in the program does not offset the cost of printing the program – which we distribute FREE.
The majority of our budget comes from a grant from the wonderful folks at the Oklahoma Arts Council. We also depend on donations from our Corporate Sponsors. The only other means of income comes from the Wednesday night benefit show, parking fees and merchandise sales. Over the years, we have considered selling tickets for the Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday music performances as well….but WE ALWAYS VOTE TO KEEP THE FESTIVAL FREE because we feel strongly that providing a free festival is a BIG reason why WoodyFest is so unique and special! We need your help to continue. What are four days of free music and other events worth to you? If each of our Facebook friends and those friends visiting our website donates only $5, we could easily be out of the red and into the black – well-positioned to begin planning for 2014.
Please consider making a donation at the Friends of the Festival link below. And thank you for your generosity.
